07 Jul 60 years of di Costa Smeralda
For more than 60 years, our much-loved Emerald Coast has captivated visitors from all over the world with its stunning waters, astonishing landscapes, and those that many consider the finest beaches in the whole Mediterranean.
The history of this celebrated stretch of land began in the 1960s, when Prince Karim Aga Khan IV transformed this wild land into an enchanting oasis with the founding of the Costa Smeralda Consortium on 14 March 1962.
Through careful urban planning and high-end architectural designs, luxurious hotels, villas and marinas have sprung up on the Coast over the decades, intending to blend harmonically with the surrounding natural beauty.
The current Vice President of the Consortium, Mario Ferraro, commented on the evolution of the Coast over time as follows: ” As a prime international destination, the Emerald Coast has changed a lot over these past sixty years – adapting itself to the modern levels of offerings and competitiveness, but it has maintained a constant and significant link with the environment and nature in its sustainable development. Each of our projects aims to preserve this area over time and create value, and it always will.”
The Emerald Coast has long been synonymous with luxury and prestige.
World celebrities, politicians and entrepreneurs enjoy the allure of this coastline and have contributed in making the region a benchmark for an upscale lifestyle.
Its renowned yacht clubs, world-class golf courses, high-fashion boutiques and gourmet restaurants make Porto Cervo a hotspot for the global elite.
In addition to the area’s luxurious amenities, visitors can explore secluded coves, dive into the stunning waters and enjoy traditional Sardinian cuisine.
If the first 60 years of the Emerald Coast were a fascinating journey through elegance, beauty, and refined lifestyle, our best hope is that it will continue to be an iconic place for a long time to come, enchanting the future visitors with its timeless appeal.
